STONE TOWN, ZANZIBAR — EST. 2010
A Sanctuary in Stone Town
The Space
Cinnamon Spa & Hammam occupies a heritage building in Shangani, the oldest quarter of Stone Town, adjacent to the Park Hyatt and Tembo Hotel. The 2026 renovation brought new materiality to the space: limewash walls, natural stone, warm brass, and the quiet textures of a building that has absorbed centuries of sea air and spice.
The hammam sits at the heart of the building. Around it: five treatment rooms, a dedicated Ayurvedic suite, a private couples hammam suite, a beauty room, and a relaxation lounge.
Our Facilities

Our Team
Cinnamon Spa & Hammam is staffed by thirteen therapists and specialists, many of whom have worked here since the early years. We invest continuously in their development, bringing training from Indonesia, India, and Thailand. They are not a rotating cast. They are the soul of the experience.
Our resident Ayurvedic specialist comes from Kerala, India. Our esthetician trained in Mumbai. Every member of our team was selected for their skill, their temperament, and their belief that the work of restoration is a serious one.
Born From An Island
In 2007, photographer and author Javed Jafferji was working on a book called Safari Spa when he noticed something missing. Zanzibar — one of the most storied islands in the Indian Ocean, with a history of royal bathing traditions and centuries of spice routes — had no spa worthy of its setting.
He and his wife Kulsum began to plan. Three years of research later, Cinnamon Spa opened in Stone Town in December 2010 as the first Ayurvedic spa on the island.
In 2020, Kulsum founded Zuri Rituals, the botanical skincare brand that powers every treatment.
In 2026, the spa was reimagined: the salon became a hammam, the space rebuilt with new materiality and a new name.
The founding intention has not changed. This is still a place built with respect for the island, staffed by a team that has grown with it, and powered by products made on this soil.
